Spring Exercise for Your Dog

east shore blog

Spring is just around the corner, and every healthy pet needs some exercise to truly blossom! Here at Eastshore Vet, the best vet in Madison, we love to hear that your pets are getting a good dose of physical activity on the regular. All pets need activity, but dogs need special attention compared to some others. Many breeds are built for a hard day's work, but modern life lets them sit back and relax. Some physical activity will give them an outlet for all that extra energy! You can do way more than walk your dogs to get them moving. There are tons of physical activities to choose from! Here are five of our favorites:

Take a hike!

Your pup will love getting to know all the new smells on a hiking trail! High-energy working dogs may benefit from wearing a doggie backpack filled with treats, a water bottle, and poop bags. Being out in nature together is a great way to bond. Hiking is a spectacular form of exercise for you both![caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="498"]

Go for a run.

If your dog is able, a morning run is a great way to get them moving. The fast pace will get their heart pounding! Make sure to spend some time stopping to smell the roses. Your dog will want to check out all the local smells even if you're moving at a faster pace than usual. Not sure if running is right for your dog? Join an agility group.

For some physical and mental exercise, get in touch with a local agility group! The running, jumping, bobbing, and weaving involved in agility is sure to wear your pup out.[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="360"]

Play a game of fetch.

Nothing beats a classic game of fetch at the park or in the yard. Use a favorite toy, a ball, a stick, a frisbee, anything you can get your paws on! Just make sure to follow all local leash laws and practice safety first.[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="260"]

Join a playgroup with other dogs.

Having fun with doggie friends is one of the best ways for your dog to get moving! Local dog parks are often full of unfamiliar dogs that may make your pup nervous. Get together with a group so your dog can get to know others and have an amazing experience![caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="480"]
